Phyllis graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in English. Then, Phyllis came to the firm after a 12-year career as a synagogue executive director first at Temple Israel in Silver Spring, MD, and then at B'nai Shalom in Olney, MD, where her public relations responsibilities included designing and writing articles for monthly newsletters, creating flyers and advertisements, writing press releases for local news media and implementing special projects. She was also directly involved in marketing and public relations campaigns to recruit new members, and represented the synagogues at community functions.
In her previous career, Phyllis spent 14 years with The Montgomery Sentinel, a paid subscription weekly newspaper in Montgomery County, MD, where she worked her way up the ladder from Editorial Assistant, Business Editor, Managing Editor to Executive Editor. As Executive Editor she was also responsible for The Prince George's Sentinel, a paid subscription weekly newspaper in Prince George's County, MD. In 1990, she was involved with launching free Montgomery County community editions, increasing circulation from 20,000 to 120,000. |
